How To Get Rid Of White Foam In Swimming Pool

There are many reasons as well as solutions to this. You may ask, ‘can’t I just use an anti-foam agent to get rid of it?’ And we’d answer: ‘Yes, anti-foam agents do reduce the foam or might even eliminate it for the time being, but they don’t permanently get rid of it.’

The only way to do that would be to pin point what exactly is causing the foam and correct that mistake. Once that is corrected, the foam will also disappear.

Here is a list of the problems and solutions for foam in your swimming pool

Water is too soft, meaning it has a low calcium hardness level, which is the measure of the total chemicals in your pool. You can test this by using the Leisure Time Free Test Strips. If your calcium level is above or below 200-400 ppm, you will need to use a product such as the SpaGuard Spa Calcium Hardness Increaser. Whether you are using adobe ground pool or in ground pool, foam can happened either side. Using a robotic pool cleaner sometime help to get rid of that as well.

The number of total dissolved solids (TDS) is too high. This can be corrected by a product like the Natural Chemistry Pool Perfect which biodegrades organic contaminants, resulting in clear, healthy, foam-free water.

Unbalanced water, which can be tested by Aqua check Testing Strips. If pH level is too high or too low, the water can be balanced again by adding the Spa guard Spa pH increaser/decreaser. Re-balancing the water can reduce or even completely eliminate the foam.

Low grade algaecides with less than 30% polymers. Most algaecides have polymers with a percentage of 30% – 60%. Sometimes if this percentage goes down, foam is produced. The best way to eliminate this problem is by purchasing an algaecide containing a percentage level of 40% like the Bio-guard Soft Swim A Algaecide.

Phosphate levels are too high. The only way to fix this is to regularly check phosphate levels using Aquacheck Test Strips and if the levels do get high or low, then using a product such as the Natural Chemistry Pool Perfect Plus PHOSfree can eliminate phosphate buildup which will eliminate foam.

Using air jets in Biguanide treated pools. What is Biguanide? It is a chemical system different from chlorine and bromine which deals with polymers attaching to the algae and filtering itself out of the pool. These systems are preferred over chlorine because it is gentler on the skin and hair. The only downfall is that you can’t use air jets because they can accumulate the polymers and create unwanted foam.

Always keep your pool clean whether is it automatic or with manual pool vacuum cleaner.

Final Note

Tracking down the source of the foam is much more effective than using anti-foam because treating the source eliminates the foam whereas treating the foam reduces it. Of course, this also depends on the amount of foam you are dealing with.

If it is a very slight amount, then using a product like the Natural Chemistry Spa Purge can definitely eliminate the foam very quickly. Of course, if none of those reasons caused the foam in your pool then it can just be that someone added a few soap bars in your pool!!

Whatever the reason may be, using the correct methods will guarantee a smooth, foam-free swimming pool.
